DJs call it digging through the crates. In March 2010, I found myself searching for an old recording of the Log Driver’s Waltz I’d made with several artists, including Wade Hemsworth, the author, Anna McGarrilgle with 2 other members of the iconic Montreal group “Mountain City Four” So down to the dusty old boxes in the basement I went, to find more than just a long-lost outtake. I found a recording recording of concerts done at Expo 86, Vancouver, with Christophe Obermeir. Another 10 inch reel proved to be a copy of a 15 piece band accompanying me singing my complete setting of “ The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by Samuel Coleridge. Then a recording with my then ex-band, Rings and Things, of House of D, a powerful song I had written about a teenage girl in New Orleans, who was trying to escape a cruel system and an abusive home life. And on it went, until the last, unmarked box produced 3 takes of Wade's song. In the meantime I had found a personal treasure trove of unreleased songs. I took the best of these and pieced them together for an album of music that should have seen the light of day a long time ago. I hope you enjoy them too. ... more

Track Name: Farewell to Quebec
There's no harbour for regret
When my ship's sail is set
Though I fell the bitter wind
I do not foresake my friends
And the freedom that I seek
Oh I still find that within
Though I thought I'd ne'er say farewell to Quebec

Chorus:
And farewell to the people I love
Your music and song I keep with me on the trek
Though I thought I'd ne'er say farewell to Quebec

To see my family
So confused and distressed
And the ones that stay behind
More persued and oppresse
It's a matter of degree
But that is surely why we left
Though I thought I'd ne'er say farewell to Quebec

Chorus

This electric city's grey
On a sic and dingy day
As I close my eyes to dream
Of our acre of green
And the mountain city isle
I can return but for a while
Though I swore I'd ne'er say farewell to Quebec

Chorus
Track Name: Paddlin' Canoe
Campin in the woods like voyageurs
Up in La Verendrye
Summer dry and hot, like it or not
Near the camp we had to stay

Chorus:
Paddlin' canoe, paddlin' canoe, padlin' canoe all dayFishi round the bends of the river with my friends
Just paddli' and fishin all the way

Old mama sturgeon, lyin' on the bottom
Big as a submarine
Tool off like a shot, tied our lines in a knot
Couldn't believe what we'd seen

Ch.

We followed up a river, up a shallow river,
Back of a beaver dam
Fishin' no good try what we could
Headed back home again
Ch

Timmy on the bow kept a lookout now
We knew what we'd seen
Two feet below, she was movin too slow
For three boys in their teens

Ch

Splash went the paddle, then another one struck
We stripped off our clothes and run
Stunned her once more, wrestled her to shore
That night we fed everyone

Ch.

Repeat first verse
Chorus
